Many Christians go into ministry and stand on a principle of  what they call “the authority of the believer”. What this means is that they apply certain New Testament scriptures that gives them authority to lay hands on the sick, cast out demons etc. What I want to show here is that believers who simply put scripture in action, are missing one big component to their ministry, relationship with the Lord.

In the days of Adam, God was determining everything that was good for Adam. Furthermore, throughout the old testament, every true prophet of the Lord  received instruction from the Lord before doing something. The bible says in John 1:1-3 and in Colossians 1:16-17 that all things were created by Jesus and for the Glory of Jesus. On the contrary, things that are done without the Glory of Christ in mind, or without the premeditation of the Lord will are not done to the Glory of Christ, but to the glory of another. In John 15:5-6 the bible goes so far as to say any work outside of Christ is a dead work and shall be unfruitful.

Believers who pray for the sick will often quote scriptures like “Matthew 10:8, or Mark 16:17-18” to validate that there actions are in accordance with scripture. They’ll say things like “I’ve been given authority to pray for the sick in Jesus name”. While this is true, and acting upon The Word of God produces fruit ( Luke 6:47-48) relationship cannot be neglected. In Luke 4:18-19 Jesus said “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord”. The question becomes, why didn’t Jesus quote this verse when praying for the sick or while being questioned by the Pharisees? We see here that Jesus was given a similar mandate to us (Matthew 10:8, Mark 16:17-18) yet His approach to ministry was not “I’ve been given authority to do this, or this is what I was called to do”. We’ll see that Jesus had a very different approach to the way He both acted in ministry and the way He justified what He was doing.

2 Chronicles 20 describes a battle about to take place during the reign of Jehoshaphat. During this time the children of Moab the children of Ammon and the Ammonites, sought to fight against Jehoshaphat. This attack struck fear in the heart of Jehoshaphat so he sought the Lord and directed all of Judah to fast and seek the Lord. In verses 6-9 Jehoshaphat recalls who the Lord is and how He has delivered Israel in the past. During verses 11-12 Jehoshaphat begins to remind God of His promises to Israel and of their (the Israelis) powerlessness against such a great army. After acknowledging his powerlessness, he says to the Lord, “but our eyes are upon thee”.

Then the word of the Lord came to Jahaziel has he reminded the people, that the battle is not theirs but the Lords. The Lord told them that they would not have to fight this battle, but to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. The next day Jehoshaphat tells the people to believe in the Lord and in his prophets and they shall be established and prosper. Then Jehoshaphat appointed singers to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness, and as they sing praises to the Lord, the Lord set ambushes against their enemies.

Whats important to take away from this story is the following: 1) Whenever you are face with an attack, or seek the Lord first, everything happens out of relationship. Jesus said in John 5:19 “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things so ever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise”. 2) Realize who the Lord is, what He has done, and His promises to you. The new testament is full of promises that God has given to His people. In Mark 6:50-52 Jesus expressed His displeasure with his disciples for their fear of their boat sinking instead of remembering how Jesus multiplied the loaves and the fishes (demonstration His power over the laws of nature). 3) Understanding that the battle does not belong to you, but to the Lord. Paul tells us that our weapons are not carnal, but mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds. Jesus says in John 15 that without Him we can do nothing. Obviously we cannot fight the devil alone, flesh cannot fight spirit, so yielding the Lord and allowing Him to fight the battle is our only solution.

What is worship:

Before we expore the benefits of worship. It is important that we have an understading of what worship is, and what is not. What is worship? The Hebrew word for worship is shachah which means to prostrate (in homage to God); to humbly beseech. True worship is an intimate and deep awe for God from the heart.

What worship is not:

The bible talks about ignorant worship, in Acts 17:23 where Paul confronts the Greeks for worshiping an unknown deity. Knowledge of who God is is important when worshiping Him Psalm 47:7

The bible talks about vain worship, in Matthew 15:7-9. The problem Jesus had with the Pharisees form of worship was 1) They would worship God with their lips, but their heart was not dedicated to God and 2) The commandments of God were not as important (i.e honoring father and mother) as their traditions (i.e. washing hands). Jesus called this vain worship because it was not from the heart and the law of God which is far more important was held below traditions of men.

The bible also talks about will worship, in Colossians 2:23 where Paul is referring to doctrines of men (refraining from such things that God says is okay to touch/eat) that this type of worship appears as if it one has devotion to God through the act of false humility even though they do not edify the flesh in any way. An example of this is people who wont take a job because they think they should live off of “faith” for their finances even though there is nothing wrong with working for a living (2 Thessalonians 3:17-20).

What worship is:

True worship is also God-centered. It ascribes worth and appreciation to God out of a heart of gratitude (Psalm 100: 1-5) and is reinforced with godly living. Jesus said in John 4:24 “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth”. Worshiping God in spirit means walking in the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). David said this in Psalm 96:9. Worshipping God in truth means worshipping God in purity, not selfishly, not religiously, not bound by temples or times or dates, but worshiping God anywhere, at any time, because He is God (John 4:20-21, Acts 17:24-25, 1 Peter 2:5).

God is starting to show me more and more of His wonderful love revealed through His power. There are two miracle stories that recently happened to me that I wanted to blog about. The first story is about a disabled lady I saw while driving to a coffee shop. I was praying and God moved upon me to go pray for her so I obeyed. I walked up to the lady at the bus stop and as soon as I got there and asked her ” I pray for people and I saw you needed healing …”. The lady was kind of rude to me at first and shunned me off as her bus approached. I quickly said “ok” and just walked away as I heard her complaining saying “my bus left me, sir, sir, my bus left me”. Apparently her bus just didn’t pick her up and left. It was already pretty late too and she was clearly disabled. So I walked up to her again and offered to pray for her but all she did was complain about how her bus had left her. She then got what I was saying to her and allowed me to pray for her. I prayed for her then the power of God came upon her and she was moved to tears. She was in a lot of pain for a lot of years and was set free at that moment. I spoke to her about the Kingdom of God and relationship then left her as she thanked me greatly for what I had done. She was glad that she had missed her bus after all. After I returned from what I was doing, it was already very late and I was on my way home. For some reason, I asked God which way I should turn and He told me “left”. I was about to go straight. I turned left and there was that lady still at the bus stop waiting on her bus. I approached her and asked her if her bus had come she said “no” and so I offered to drive her home. God used me again to minister to her as her pain had come back the left again after I ministered to her again. She was so over joyed and thankful to God. I drove her home and gave her instructions for claiming healing over herself. God is good.

People often ask God for more faith. They want to have the type of faith Jesus had. In order for us to walk in that type of faith first of all it takes relationship. Spending time with Jesus (in His Word, Prayer, Worship). Also, walking the way He walked (in Love, Holiness). But I don’t want to talk about that part of it today, I want to talk about what your faith must endure in order to become more perfect.

2 Peter 1:5 says “But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.  For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ” We see here that faith is a living thing that has certain attributes like self-control and brotherly kindness, after all, you cant be considered a man or woman of great faith if you lack self-control, or you dont walk in love. For example, say your faith lacks self-control, then the moment you pray for something and it doesn’t go your way when you expect it and you get upset, doubtful etc then right then you are out of faith.

Romans 5:3-5 says ” And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed”. To the mature believer, its obvious that faith must glory in tribulation, since the things of this world change and the word of God are forever settled in heaven. But this is not always easy since many of us get sad or discouraged through tribulation. But how can we call our faith great if we fall back at the slightest bit of tribulation? It is for this reason or faith must be tried!!! But once we have a few testimonies under our belt, then we know that all it takes is patience, and our experience through tribulation gives us hope that we’ll get through it. James 1:2-4 reinforces this point.

THIS IS A LIFE CHANGING SERMON BY T.B JOSHUA:

“When you believe HIS Word you possess the thing that HIS Word has guaranteed. When you believe His Word, you pray and you know it is HIS will. When you pray in that name (Jesus) Jesus takes over it; then it is His care, Your word, then in, Jesus name makes things come into being. I mean, come to pass. Its no longer you burden as long as you don’t repudiate it by wrong confession. My heart know that the case is settled. No matter the sign, no matter the situation I m experiencing, my heart knows that the case is settled. You ask for healing, so get out of bed and walk. You ask for money, so make provision to pay the bills. You ask for rain, so put on you raincoat. You read when the rain comes. Prayer should be followed by an attitude of absolute trust in Christ that He is working out the answer. Your prayer is based upon His Word. My prayer is based upon His Word. Scriptural prayer releases the power of God. Fill your prayers with the Scriptures. Because Scriptural prayer releases the power of God. Prayer and reading your bible should always God hand and hand. One is not complete without the other. The heart must be rooted and grounded in the Word so that what God says is final with you. When we pray according to His will, we are assured that He heard us and if He hears us, that is as good as an answer”

The bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing of the word of God (Romans 10:17). So first comes the word, then comes faith. However if the word is not mixed with faith, is not profitable Hebrews 4:2, 1 Thessalonians 13. Furthermore, if faith is not mixed with works, it is not profitable Luke 6:49, James 2:14-26.

Understanding this principles will help you understand how healing, salvation, and walking in victory works.

Many of us who go out to lay hands on the sick do it in accordance with the scripture Mark 16:17-18. But many of us fail to see the results that Jesus did and this often frustrates us. But one thing I have found is that the word of God does not work for a believer unless the Holy Spirit is involved. There are many theologians who know the word of God better than some Christians yet why don’t they seem to operate in the supernatural power of God that the scripture declares? Do they lack faith?

No one in history had the type of relationship with God the Father that Jesus had with Him (Matt 11:27). But simply knowing your identity in Christ doesn’t guarantee results. Most would admit that one should have faith. The bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing of the word of God. But how can you have faith in the word of God, if you don’t have a relationship with God? But what do I mean by relationship? Recall the relationship Adam had with God. In the beginning God determined what was good for Adam and what wasn’t. So Adam had a “dependent” relationship on God. We see the same thing in the life of Jesus (John 14:10, John 5:19, John 5:30-31) where Jesus basically says He doesn’t nothing without hearing or seeing His Father do it. Yes the same Jesus who was sent into the world, who was given a mandate by God (Isaiah 61:1) to set captives free and given the power to do so, still felt it necessary to rely on God.

Jesus said in Matthew 19:26 “But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”. With God all things are possible. The opposite is also true, without God all things are impossible. Many of us do not rely on God, we don’t see God, we don’t see what the Father is saying about a “particular person” we simply say “well it says it here in the scriptures so all I have to do is mix it with a little faith and I should see a miracle”. Many of us have come to find out that this is not true neither did we see this is the life of Jesus. He did not quote Isaiah 61:1 everything time He went out to heal the sick or set the captives free like we quote Mark 16:17-18 or Matthew 10:8  He relied on His dependent relationship with God (John 5:19). In order for us to see the types of results Jesus did we must have the same type of dependent relationship with Christ as He had with God (John 15:5). After all, Jesus did not heal everyone the same way, namely by giving commandment to them to be healed, sometimes they obeyed a commandment and got healed, sometimes their faith healed them, and some times He commanded them to be healed. But He relied on the Holy Spirit to direct the way He ministered and didn’t apply a “cookie-cutter” method like many of us do. Can someone say “religious?”. At any rate, Jesus wants us to rely Him for how a person should be healed or prophesied to because just like people don’t get sick the same way, they don’t get healed the same way either. Rely on the Holy Spirit’s leading and you’ll see incredible results.

Here is her testimony. Do likewise. Jesus loves you:

I was diagnosed with third stage ,inoperable, lung cancer with involvement of the lymph nodes in 2008.When i awoke from surgery of performing the biopsy and in my case had to cut an opening in my throat to get a sample of lymph nodes also…the Drs very blunt words were “Well this is worse then i thought” You have inoperable lung cancer …one inch away from the trachea…can not remove the lung …no room from the trachea..You have as little as three months to two years to live..depending on how fast it spreads……and he left me and my husband alone in a place of “What did he just say?”

I think not by chance i had been involved with a healing passion for 15 years…never a training by man..only a guidance from the Holy Spirit… I had taught my children and everyone i knew..God is a God that heals..There is an amount of promised years on this earth if we love Him and know His Word and i had not lived those years yet.I was 52. I may not be able to tell you all the scriptures on prophesy but I could tell you the ones on healing.Maybe not where they were exactly but I knew they were there and what they said……

My worst moments were the thought of telling my mom and children….and then…I wanted to live to have my grandchildren know me..and the most important..I haven’t done my work for YOU Lord yet!! I can’t do that in the grave……So I set out on my mission.God healed me already..Now Jill..it’s time to learn how to recieve it……I got home and my whole family wrote healing scripture on posted notes and stuck them every where. Cup of coffee….: By His stripes you are healed” brushing teeth: “I have given you the keys to the Kingdom” Opening refridgerator””forget not all His benefits.Who forgives all your sins and HEALS all your diseases” on the computer” You hold the power of life and death in the tongue” get the picture..:} I also said” Lord I need this miracle” But I want my lung also…I want the WHOLE miracle.” According to Drs..the only way i would have a chance would be removing the lung with the cancer in it.

Day after day…claiming His promise…showing Him His Word and telling Him He says He is a God who can not lie.My children know that. You MUST heal ..other wise it is a lie..Oh yes..God wants us to show Him we KNOW what His Word says. For with out faith ..it is impossible to please Him..To make this as short as possible..i did take chemo and radiation..trying to shrink it so maybe they could remove the lung.I prayed about treatment. He never said NO..treatment was aggressive…but so was the diagnosis…I read scripture..i had a healing scripture recorder that i placed under my pillow every night.Filling my mind and body with the healing Word even as i slept…And when satan attacked..I attacked back with the weapons God provided….

“I shall live and not die and i will proclaim what the Lord has done for me” My desire was to live to be a testimony to Gods Promise….Four months later i was bald, weak, scared..yes…scared doesn’t dissapear easily….But i again told God…I had to be healed. He said so….. My scans came back …I was still not operable for the disease was too close to the trachea still….the only difference was..the disease was in remission…only scar tissue according to the PET scan…no spread anywhere which for Lung cancer in third stage is amazing.I had more then one Dr tell me i was a lucky lady that it had not spread .I would respond..I am a Blessed lady..by the hand of Jesus…

They called me the miracle lady at the cancer center for three and a half years ..then five months ago..it returned…NOT POSSIBLE I said…I am healed…Drs said you lasted longer then 95 percent of the people with this…i wasn’t finished with Gods Work yet and niether was He.I don’t know why it returned..maybe because i was even at worse risk for remission the second time around…The first time was luck so they said..my Dr also said..if I didn’t look as healthy as i did..she wouldn’t bother with any more treatments..That is how bad things were in the medical world with my illness… I can also add the FIRST thing I ever did also was go to the Elders of the Church and had them pray over me and annoint me with oil.It is scriptual and says the sick person will be healed. My church thank goodness believed in healing….

This time around i could have 15 radiation treatments..just to help me breathe better.I was having a very hard time breathing…And this time I said..”Jesus….I don’t have the energy to put into healing this time around. It was over whelming the first time….so i simply said..Your Word is still truth….I am not spending 20 hours in scripture..and 5 hours reading healing books..i had it all in my heart already..i just laid it at His feet and said….YOU promised i am healed….That’s that…… Three days ago i had the pleasure of being told…no cancer anywhere in my body and the lung mass once again in remission…..What a Mighty God we serve…Have His Word in your heart..Know it Believe it..my favorite scripture..I say it still alot Mark 11:22-26. Look it up and read it..And to be honest the best healing Book I have read and is what I used mostly..because it is Scriptual.. is “Recieve a Miracle Healing ” by T.L. Osborn. He has passed on..and the book is older…but I’m here and his Book kept me lifted in the truth…. God Bless you all… my family and I are praising all the days he has given me and i plan on using them for His Kingdom in any way he chooses for me.. prayerfully, jill P.S. I still have both lungs..I recieved the whole miracle….. [?] You can also…. Faith….
